Hi, Lindsey! Thanks for taking the time to read this, and for such thoughtful commentary and kind words - I truly appreciate it :) I would never take back the experience I had this summer - it was worth that disorienting feeling upon "reentry" - because, yes, I think I've already started internalizing a lot of the things that I experienced on the trail. It was truly a life-changing experience to immerse myself in the outdoors for so long, and it's been worth all of the post-hike blues :)

Shawnte! I finally sat down and read this post, and a few thoughts for you: 1. This is actually why I've sort of avoided thru-hiking so far, oddly. Beyond the fact that it's really tough physically/mentally, I've sort of been scared of coming back to the world and thinking "oh my god, what do I do now?" I feel like that generally after a week out in the backcountry, hehe. Just a thought, for what's it worth! 2. I would add to this: You actually sort of make me feel better about this, in that it seems like you've taken to heart all the things you've learned on the trail, and will carry that with you through all parts of your life! So, in the end that's amazing and seems to have made it all worth it. Thanks so sharing, and as always, beautiful writing :)

My goodness, Shawnte, it's almost as if I was braving those elements alongside you, so evocative, so full, were your words...your memories. Breathtaking. I found you via Rachel and, golly, am I glad I did. A thank you to her, and thank you to you, for sharing.
